• Responding to email notices you receive.
    **************************************************
In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Recently, I have been getting a number of email notifications containing 2 apparently identical links (one dead, one working). It isn't happening with all of them, but several a day. Just thought I would mention it.

I have not received any email notifications of any kind. Has this changed??:shrug01: I have to check my user cp to see if the threads that I have participated in have any new post's:eek:

:shrug01: Beats me. I haven't changed anything related to emails on this site....

the double link (one dead) thing stopped about 3-4 days after I made my initial post

Guess I should have kept my mouth shut - I've gotten 3 more since I posted that...
interestingly, though, 2 of them were for 4 day old posts :shrug01: and I had to scroll back to the previous page of emails to find my "new" mail because they popped up with items from the same date :ack2:

Probably a lot like making an appointment to see a doctor. Making the appointment usually cures me before I ever get there....

Yep, it's business as usual here.....other than I was dumb enough to update to IE7, and some things don't work quite right here now, but I'm working on that. Still getting emails for subscribed threads, PMs, etc.

At least you're getting notification. Zip, nadda, ziltch here.

You may want to check the settings in your email account. Yahoo will usually put ALL emails coming from vBulletin sites in a bulk or spam folder.

This is probably true with some others as well.

Earthlink (and others) will block emails from everyone unless the source verifies themselves with the recipient. Quite frankly, I NEVER take the time to do that.

Checked, and nothing for a few days now. Same thing with Cornsnakes.com notifications. :shrug01:

Same subject different problem. I changed my User CP to not get the email, still received all of them. Finally had to unsubscribe all the threads and change it that way to stop the notification.

I believe that some of the problems are originating from various ISPs. I reviewed some bounced emails yesterday that were being blocked by AOL and have contacted them about this issue. There are already known issues with Yahoo and Hotmail dumping messages from this site into a bulk or spam folder. I believe users can set up those accounts to automatically delete messages that those providers determine to be spam, so in that case, they will never get those messages at all.

Not to mention that many members apparently set up one of these freebie email accounts (or in the case of AOL set up a false account) simply to register and then allow them to expire.

I am limited as to what I can do about YOUR ISP. Spam has become a HUGE problem on the net, and in a lot of cases the tools being utilized to try to combat it are proving to be just as bad as the original problem.

My options are limited. Certainly I do have to consider that if ISPs such as AOL are blocking all emails from this site, and I cannot get them to remove that block, that I may have to just block AOL registrations here completely because of the headaches it will cause from members not being able to receive email notification. Not a very satisfactory solution, for certain.

From another angle, I get bounced emails all of the time with the spoofed originating email address something like [email protected], where the content is obvious spam. So I have to assume that someone may be maliciously doing this sort of thing to target this site to being blocked as an originator of spam.

I do have hotmail and openly admit that unless I specify that fauna is safe they will go to junk mail, junk mail is saved for 24hrs so I can still read it.

My problem was I was still getting emails after I had specifed on the User CP to not send them for subscribed threads. I had to set it up so I have no subscribed threads to stop the emails.

I don't think the site is being targeted.

Spammers and the bots they use love to grab legitimate email domain names and append garbage to them. Originally this worked really well to get emails through to mail servers from that domain because no one ever thought to block email coming from their own domain name.

It isn't unusual to see legitimate email addresses harvested by spammers either. The problem is that anyone that you have sent email to may have their computer infected by a spam bot that lifts addresses out of their contact list. Just one example of why it is important to not open suspicious emails and always have up-to-date antivirus software ob your computer.
