In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Hello-

I could really use some help with Herman, my 6 month old male milk snake.

The first problem is that he has had 3 retained sheds. I have 2 different kinds of shedding products, I am misting his cage 1-2 times a day, and he has plently of rough surfaces to work with. I am also filling his preferred coconut with damp paper towels when he starts to shed.

He is a wonderful eater.

Because he has been so self sufficient, I have not handled him very much recenly, and he is abou 3 ft long. He was lying at the front of his cage yesterday, and so I reached in to his level, and carefully picked him up, so that he was supported, and he went nuts! He would not anchor to my arm, and was flailing wildly. He only calmed down after he was back in his house.

I know that it is my fault for handling him more when he was younger, but he was flighty then too, and I did not want to stress him out.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can tame him down to be handled?

Thank you,
Kate

Hi Patricia!

First, you'll probably find more help if you were to put this in the proper forum This one is for Classified ads. Further down the main page, you will find a Milksnake forum. Here's a link.......

Second, as long as you aren't forcing yourself upon the snake daily, handling is actually the best thing to get him over the flightiness.

As for the sheds, I would say soak him for 20-30 minutes in luke warm water. Meaning if the water feels warm to you, it's probably hot for the snake. If he has 3 retained sheds, than he is way past due for you to help out.

But again, this is the wrong forum for this. If you put it in the right forum, you will probably get more responses from people who actually deal with Milksnakes.

Good luck
Rick
