    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I am building an Incubator out of a gutted freezer.I am just wanting to know what every thinks as far as the placement of the fan.I have read some put it on the bottom and some put it up top.What do you folks recomend,up top or down on the bottom?

I'd put it on the top. You wouldn't want any water drops dripping on an electrical motor. Plus if you somehow get an escaped baby, a fan that's out of reach would be beneficial.
 
I have a freezer incubator

and i put it on top, and never have had any problems!!! I think it helps keep the temps more stable on top, since hot air rises, if the fan is on top, it circulates it down to be mixed with the cooler air.. Anyway i am just rambling on here LOL.. Let us see some pics if you can, i will try to get some of mine tomorrow.. Mike
 
I don't think it really matters one way or the other. You can push the cool air to the top or the hot to the bottom. Either way should achieve the same goal. ;)
 
Thanks all for the replys it is much appreciated.Just one other ? for ya all.Do you all keep your fan continuously runing or do you have hooked to the same thermastat as the flexwatt in the incubator so the both turn on & off at the same time?

I hooked my fan up so it's on all the time. I was worried about not enough juice going to run the fan fast enough. I also used flexwatt, mine's hooked to a helix though and I thought since it's proportional it may only need a little power to heat up the heat tape and it wouldn't be enough to run the fan sufficiently. I think I went a little overboard with the flexwatt though, which is partly why I was worried about the fan.
 
The begining:)

Thought I would share some pics of me and my roommates incubator we are building out of a 13.5cuft stand up freezer. I will post pics as it progreses.First up are some pics of as it is being cleaned and after it's been gutted.This week after he receive's his flex watt we will post some more pics and then finaly a finished product.
It will be used for BP eggs......and who nows what other types of eggs will go in it in the future.:)

Well we got the incubator all done and it is working absolutley perfect holding temps right at 90 couldn't be any happier.I would like to thank every one for there help ecspecialy Casey Hulse for all the help you gave over the phone,you are the man.:) Here some pics of the finished product.

These are 120watt cooling fans purchased from Radio Shacke secured with 3in screws and 1in nylon spacers.
