I know there are a few people out there breeding IJ Carpets... We have a pair that should be breedable soon, but as with all our other projects, we prefer to not take chances with breeding them at an age/size too young.

Wondering if anyone has information on when IJ Carpets are of adult size and age? My pair is close to 3 years old, but they just don't seem big enough! Maybe I am thrown off by the large size of the australian carpet pythons.

Thanks in advance,

Mark

My friend recently got eggs from his diamonds and jungles. His female diamond that laid 6 good eggs and 6 duds was only about 4'-4.5' . He has always had better luck breeding carpets when they are not large and obese. His range from 3-5 years old. He has always stuck with one meal a week. I think a big mistake some hearpers make is trying to over feed reptiles thinking they will breed faster. I also have always stayed away from frozen food. Kill fresh and feed.
Good Luck,

i read somwhere it was 2500 grams for the female...which i think works out to be about 5 lbs.

A 5lb IJC?!

Chances are thats not even possible.

IJCs, are close to if not the smallest carpet ssp.

Just how big are they?

I have a 6 footer male that was weighed at 1894 grams(around 4 pounds)...males are smaller than females in length and girth...it's definitely FAR from impossible to have a 5 pound IJC in my opinion.

Hi,

I can put this question to rest. We have a male IJC weighing in at 2315 grams (5.1 lbs). He is 6'5", still growing, and is an eating machine.

To answer the original thread, I feel the female should be at least 4 feet long and 3 years old. My female turned 3 this past breeding season (4'5") and laid her 1st clutch of 7, and it was hard on her. They say IJCs reach sexual maturity at 18 months, but any breeder starting them that young is not thinking of the animals. There is a pretty good web site for breeding tips at:

Good Luck!
