If someone needed a necropsy done on a snake, what specifics tests would one ask for? Please advice soon as snake is in freezer.

Thank you

Hi Rozann,

Unfortunately, putting a dead animal in the freezer could actually harm the tissues which could make the results of a necropsy questionable. The most common type of necropsy requested to be performed is a 'full post' (full post mortem) or a 'complete' necropsy... especially when cause of death is unknown.

Yeah, I hate to say it, but if the animals' in the freezer it's already too late. Next time, stick it in the fridge right away. I think what they do first is just a gross dissection, and then if they don't find anything obvious then they do tests on the tissues and such, which costs more.

Thank you for replying. The snake was in the freezer as long as it took to write this post and call the vet. Then it went straight to the fridge:)
Thank you for your responses, the vet had told me.
