View Full Version : What should I expect??

I was recently sold a 1.1 pair of Hog Island boas about ready to breed. I won't go into who sold them because I only just emailed him about the problem. But, I want to know what I should expect. I ended up with 2 males, which is by far worse than 2 females. I do not need or want two males. I WANT to keep one of the males. Should I be expected to pay to send the other back?
Should I get half the money I spent in refund, if he can't exchange him for a similar sized female?
Please tell me what the norm is.
Thanks so much,
Laura

I would expect the vendor to replace the snake or refund the money for it and pay all shipping. That's what I would do if I shipped improperly sexed snakes. It's good that you sexed them when they arrived. I learned the hard way years ago when I didn't sex a pair of hatchlings bought from one of the biggest names in the biz. By the time I realized I had two males, both where almost grow. One of the dumber things I've done. Now I sex every snake I buy no matter who I buy it from.
Vendor mistake, vendor pays IMHO

I agree with Tim.  He pays shipping and works out the deal to your satisfaction.  If you think half a refund is fair then thats what he should give you.  If you think females are worth more than males and think you deserve more than half (within reason of course) then thats what you should get.  Best thing to do probably would be to get a full refund and have him pay for shipping them both back.

I will add this (goes along with the thread below about getting ripped off)  If you NEED a guaranteed pair, get the Guarantee in writing.  I see adds like "1.1 I think"  "sold to me as a pair"  Can't tell but looks like a pair"  If you buy based on that thinking you are getting a pair and it turns out not to be, you really have no recourse if the seller is not willing to work with you, and as far as I am concerned it doesn't neccessarily make the seller a bad guy.  bad business person perhaps but not a bad guy.

I appreciate your input.
I was offered $200 and Ipay shipping. So, I was offered about $175 (out of $500 plus shipping). Not very good thinks I. But, I will get documented proof  of the snake's sex and take his offer of a $100 refund and sell the snake myself. This, is at least more reasonable. :o) Hopefully he will follow through as he said.
No, I didn't get them on an "I think" basis. They were a definate 1.1 pair. :o) He said they were sexed when he got them. Obviously whoever sexed them did not know what they were doing?? Well, mistakes can be made and he is offering to make up for it, and I appreciate that. :o)
Thanks again,
laura

Some people really have some nerve. The refund offer that the seller made to you is ludicrous. He owes you a full refund on the purchase price of one snake (whichever one you choose), and also should have to pay shipping to return the snake and shipping for the replacement. As for the alternative refund plan, he only threw that in there because chances are you would take $100 and keep the snake (if I understood that right) rather than lose money by returning the snake to him while having to pay shipping and not even get the full purchase price back. If I am correctly  understanding what went on here, this guy, in my opinion, is being much less than honorable. Please post his name and such on the BOI for everyone to be wary of him.

I've spoken with him again. He said he'll trust that I go them sexed (cost me $20 for them to be probed - highway robbery!!<img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>, but I wanted to be able to prove what I was saying was true. He's agreed to send the $100. I decided to give the male to my daughter as a pet. Maybe he'll breed someday, although he is not as clean as I would like, though not bad. So, my daughter is happy about that. I cannot give out his name because I do not think he is a bad guy at all, I believe him to be a good guy trying to make better a mistake. It was just an unfortunate mistake. He said after this that he'll just have to learn to sex snakes. :o) If I asked for 1/2 refund and he pays shipping, he might well have done it. But, I did not ask for that, I did not counter his original offer, I am okay with this.
Thanks so much,
laura

boy if i only posted all the people that sent me wrong sex snakes that i paid top dollar for and got a gee sorry excuse from -the board would be loaded down with pages and pages of it.
the lesson to be learned here..have the seller guarentee the snakes sex and get it up front in writing that if he or she is wrong they pay shipping back etc etc.
otherwise you will be stuck with..oh gee..is that right??
gosh sorry.
