I have just 2 western Hermann’s toroises (Testudo hermanni hermanni) available at this time. Born 10/31 in a late season clutch, the last of 2017.
They were produced by our group from Mallorca,
Balearic Islands and were genetically tested for absolute purity. This is a small form with a very distinct phenotype. The real deal.
Main constant traits are:
-Pale lemon-yellow ground color.
-Saddle shaped carapace raised in the anterior.
-Snout is very blunt and rounded unlike Italian forms.
-Head is very dark, no bright green/yellow scales on the top as seen in Italian forms.
-Subocular spot (cheek patch) very small or lacking entirely in adults unlike Italian forms.
-Black stripes on the plastron form “spikes” that sometimes touch each other at the mid line.
-Front nails are sometimes black unlike the yellow nails of Italian forms.
-Keyhole on fifth vertebral is very distinct and not skinny or distorted in any way.
