Finding Salamanders

Most of the salamanders in our area, Alabama, are found in semi-damp forest. Areas in the woods that slope down into streams but are rarely flooded. Look under fallen and rotting limbs and logs and in dense leaf litter. We regularly find Spotted and Marbled with an occasional Eastern Tiger and once in a while a Mole. We usually go a day or two after a good rain. The ground water helps to move the salamanders closer to the surface and out of burroughs.
