i am wanting to get a Varanus Dumerelii or Dumeril's moniter/Brown rough-necked monitor and i know a little and i've read some caresheets about them but i know that lots of caresheets are wrong most of the time so can any1 tell me a few things about them. here are a few care sheets that i've found

so can any1 tell me if some of that is right or if u have any more care sheets that i can look at and dont worry i dont plan on gettign 1 till i have lots of money a good cage and i know everything about them

the info in those sheets is pretty good...although I think the humidity recommendation (80%) is excessive. As mentioned, these monitors LOVE water, and will soak for hours at a time. Be prepared to clean/disinfect the water container regularly, as they will defecate there. Also mentioned was the tendency to dismember prey...I would say disembowel is a more accurate term. They quite literally rip the guts out of their prey (mammals, chicks, fish). They will consume the entrails, but it still tends to be rather messy (they wipe it all over the place). They are great monitors - enjoy.

Oh - one thing I don't remember seeing in there. you will want to make sure it has been treated for internal parasites...the best way is to have your vet do a fecal exam. Imports are typically loaded, so I always did a course of Panacur and Flagyl right off the bat.
