What type of turtle is this?

Value

What's the value?

Calaveras 06-20-2017 11:03 PM

red-bellied cooter
Value is negligible, they get bigger than Red Eared Sliders so are avoided by most pet keepers

Wouldnt a red belly cooter have.......a red belly?

This turtle is definetly not a red belly cooter. I am not sure the species, can't quite tell from thr pictures provided. I can say its not any species of slider, cooter, painted, map, snapper, mud/musk turtles.

Actinemys marmorata - Western pond turtle. Since you live in California, it is a protected native species with no monetary value.

I agree with western pond turtle. Please release it where you found it. Illegal to possess in California.

"It is illegal to capture, collect, intentionally kill or injure, possess, purchase, propagate, sell, transport, import or export any native reptile or amphibian, or part of one, with very few exceptions in the law. That includes western pond turtles and desert tortoises. (California Code of Regulations Title 14, Section 40)"
