Fiji Boa Candoia found in toolshed....

Was just over on Kadavu Island, Fiji where this little guy was found in the toolshed. The Fijians are afraid of them so he had to be rescued from certain execution, but he was immediately placid and handlable. I had him around my arm for several hours before releasing him into the higher forest.
This is a male Candoia bibroni bibroni, showing the typical pattern of Kadavu island, but with a very striking orange tail not seen on all. |
I wish I could find boas in my toolshed :D
Thanks for sharing, he's a handsome boy! |
Amazing how it's almost invisible even as you're releasing it.
Are you from Fiji or an expat from elsewhere? |
I avoid my toolshed so i don't feel so guilty about the chores I haven't completed. Maybe I should go take a look? Cool find!

Yeah, I think it's better than fairies at the bottom of my garden!
I'm expat British, left UK in 1986 (feel much better now...), been in Fiji since 1996. This week taking snakes into local school to do some education and awareness stuff, should be fun... |
