question about rat snakes
 

why do my gray rat's stink so bad? i know they musk, but they ALWAYS smell horrible. i can barely stand even holding the male. the female isn't too bad. is it only because they're breeding? it stinks so bad! LOL

My gray rats can and do musk once in a great while (a whole lot less than when I got them as babies), but they don't stink all the time. I can't remember if they had a stronger odor last breeding season or not, maybe I'll try to guage that this year.

What kind of enclosure do you have them in?

a 2x2x2, vision type with sliding glass fronts. they're adults, like i said, the female doesn't musk as much, but the male just stinks. his entire body stinks.

Maybe it's just them manly-man snake pheremones working overtime...if the female is putting out, it must be working :thumbsup:

true, i'll just leave the doors closed and let the magic happen. lol
