Shipment to ALASKA!

Hello everyone,

I need to send a male to Alaska...

I send all my geckos, Next Day Air with UPS.

It's first time I'm sending a Leo to Alaska. Temperatures are around Hi 41, Lo 21. I successfully send once to NY with temperatures under 20F (two 40hrs heat packs); but its first time I'm sending a gecko that far away under this temperatures.

I need some suggestions should I, wait for warmer temperatures, or include one more heat pack, or use FEDEX instead UPS.

Thanks a lot everyone.

PD: Cody, this post will help you too. I will send you the answers to your e-mails.

Hi-

I'm from Alaska (never had anything but snakes shipped though) and have had nothing but good, on time, live deliveries with UPS and no heat packs (these were during summer, though with temps of around 60-90F.) Well, almost nothing but good. One of my UPS shipments came through a lady with no uniform in a mini van and I didn't have to sign for anything... Hmmm. It was on time and live though, despite the "distance!"

I live in the city though- I don't know how a shipment into the bush would work. I've heard horror stories of really botched shipments.

That was weird… I posted but my post didn’t show up.

Anyways I’m in the same boat as Christian. I’m sending two females to Alaska to the same person. Usually when the temps are like this I don’t ship. I wish the lows were in the 40’s and the highs were warmer. I’ve only shipped UPS but I ‘m sure they would be ok.

I don’t know Christian, we should probably wait a little longer. I just don’t want to risk any of the geckos. Anyone else have any Alaska shipping experience?

I agree Cody!

I agree Cody.
The Temperatures that I was expecting for Monday already changed. I'm going to wait until Lo. are on the 40'.

Thanks for your help Scarlett_Fawn; I'm going to follow your suggestions

I've never experienced an issue shipping to alaska, just package knowing delivery will not be made until late afternoon or early evening.

UPS Next Day Service

Thanks TSE,

I was calculating the shipping time, and I figured out:

The package was guarantee for next day, end of the next day. Since is Alaska, and I'm sending the package from Florida (opposite poles); the package will be traveling all day and all night (1st day) and will arrive Alaska during the daytime temperatures of the 2nd Day; Therefore, temperatures will be over 40'. Since I will be adding two heat packs to the package, temperatures will be working very accurate because the temperatures outside the box will be very low.

But if the package do not arrive the 2nd day, the male will die. It’s like playing in the Casino. I already made a choice, and Cody is also agreed. If Low's are under 40's I don't ship the gecko.

Thanks a lot TSE
