DuVall-Nephrite Baby Profiles (2016-A)

Living Gems Reptiles is pleased to finally profile the babies from its 2016 “A” litter. The 19 babies in this litter showed their potential from Day 1, with many of them hinting at their high orange heritage. They tend towards traditional dorsals, with a few short chains, though a few have chains of eight plus; and they have predominantly traditional side crescents, though there are a few unusual marks such as reverse bullseyes. They were also one of our feistier litters in recent memory, and made my fingers pay for early handling sessions…thankfully, as with most baby Brazilians, they have since tamed down. The gender split was slightly male-heavy, with ten boys and nine girls. All have now shed twice, eaten seven times, and had “confirmation” their digestion is properly working. As has been outlined in previous posts, all of these babies come from a disease-tested facility. As with all LGR litters, we’ve done dozens of handling sessions for each baby, part of our commitment to start acclimating them to humans. Over the following posts, please find a short profile of every baby in the litter. For each, a short description is provided, noting any behavioral or physical quirks, along with a selection of photos showing their development over the first two sheds. Baby #01 (Female)
This little lady has six short and one long dorsal chain on her back. She has a mini fork ending her center head stripe. Her sides are mostly crescents, with one lonely reverse bullseye on her right.

Baby #02 (Male)
This good-looking gent has four short and one long dorsal chain on his back. The long one is the second longest chain in the litter at eight links. His sides are mostly thin crescents, with one merged spot on his right.

Baby #03 (Male)
This feisty fellow has seven short dorsal chains on his back. His sides are mostly crescents, but he is tied for the most deviations in the litter: three stretched and three merged spots on his right; and three stretched and one merged spot on his left. A little warrior, he was one of the feistiest babies in the litter at first, attacking my fingers with abandon for a few days before coming to the conclusion that fingers were your friend.

This handsome guy has a thin extended head line. He has four short dorsal chains on his back. His sides are mostly crescents, with one lonely stretched spot on his right. He was remarkably calm during the last grading session.

Baby #06 (Male)
This colorful baby boy has two short and one long dorsal chain on his back. His sides are entirely crescents, with not a single aberration. The black portion of a few of the right-side markings actually bleeds down into and connects with his bottom half-dots.

Baby #07 (Female)
This lovely lass has three short and two long dorsal chains on her back. Her dorsals are relatively tightly packed compared to her littermates. Her sides are mostly thicker crescents, with one reverse bullseye and one stretched spot on her right; and one stretched spot on her left. The black portion of a few of the left-side markings actually bleeds down into and connects with her bottom half-dots.

Baby #08 (Female)
This young gal has a small elongated pearl mark on her head. She has just one lonely short dorsal chain on her back, and her dorsals have thicker borders than her littermates. Her sides are mostly thin crescents, with one stretched and one merged spot on her right; and one stretched spot on her left.

Baby #09 (Male)
This small gent has an interesting head pattern in which two of the three stripes connect to form a half-trident, and the third looks like it tried (the scales connecting it have light black shading). He has the unusual distinction of having no dorsal chains at all on his back -- a perfect “classic” back pattern. His sides are mostly ultrathin crescents, but he is tied for the most deviations in the litter: two almost-eclipses, four fragments, and one merged spot on his right; and two full eclipses and one fragment on his left.
