Ohio state law issues
looks like everyone who keeps any reptiles now needs a license thru ODNR
http://onlinedocs.andersonpublishing...ced&2.0#LPHit1 is this their way of knowing who needs raided? |
Nope. It's only applicable to those species which are native to Ohio.

this is a diffrent code then OAC 1501:31-25-04
this is new legislation, I'm afraid this applys to all reptiles and amphibians. or are you reading something im not? :( read it Ken |
Ken,
Am I missing something? I don't see where the revised code mentions anything about native or exotic. Maybe I just reading through it too fast :D Jon |
That I am aware of, OAC 1501 deals solely with the administrative side of the OH DNR.
Regulations regarding the possession of herps can be found in the OAC. The cite provided was OAC 1533.71, which references back to OAC 1533.70, which in turn references back to OAC 1531.01. The definitions, which are applicable to 1533.71 are provided in 1531.01. They state: Quote:

your right Ken, sorry . It does only apply to natives. Just seems odd to me they would write a new code that just repeates the old code. And word it the way they did there.

Nothing really surprises me when it comes to Ohio anymore.
Bear in mind that this is the only state that I am aware of whose laws are written to consider defendants guilty until proven innocent in certain felony cases. It seems that Gov Taft and the Ohio legislature consider both the US and Ohio Constitutions to be null and void within the geographical borders of their state. |
Just in case anyone thought that the ridiculous nature of the Ohio state legislature was limited to laws pertaining to herps . . .

A new problem shipping/receiving and everything else
The state of Ohio is now requiring anyone shipping animals into Ohio or anyone in Ohio getting animals shipped to them, to notify the government prior to shipping with carrier, contents, recipient, arrival and more info. If you live in Ohio, this is the last straw. They are killing the pet trade and hobby of pets of any kind in Ohio. They have included crickets, fish, reptiles and all other animals in this restriction! This is a huge problem! The entire pet trade including PIJAC will now be focused on Ohio and the battle lines are now drawn. This is a big deal. Get involved before it is too late. Donate money to PIJAC. Write, call, fax, harrass your elected officials. Do something now. I am going to court in Ohio to get started on my situation. Imagine if your local pet store had to go through a customs like clearing process for international shipments just to get in crickets or goldfish.

Just the first step for the government to take away are freedom. They are just going to take and take.
