It looks like a Florida Water Snake to me :) They can have banding or be the more black like your pic... Great photo :)

thanks.... my dad says its a water moccasin but hes not to sure *shrug*

annmikeal 03-08-2011 11:24 AM

definitely not a moccasin... I promise :)

Not a Moccasin but probably a Florida Banded Water Snake as mentioned.

thanks yall... by the way the lilly pad hes on is about 3ft in diameter so the snakes pretty big ......

Its a Fl. water snake..they are pretty neat snakes...somewhat agrressive..when I go fishing down in Fl. I have seen them chasing after my frog baits as i retrieve them over the lilly pads..they have followed it all the way to my feet..their bite is pretty harsh it hurts like hell and they have some sort of venom in their mouth that makes the wound continue to bleed ...(i cant remember what its called)...great pic

Its not a venom, just an anticoagulant :D (causes the blood to not be able to clot, so you bleed for a bit longer as mentioned above)
