***'Reputations'*** ???

I noticed a little icon below my name that looks like a set of scales. When I clicked on it, it said I had a bunch of 'reputation' points.

After some investigation, I found that almost everyone now has these icons, and you can add to someone's reputation by clicking on a post of theirs. (So I promptly added points to some of the many folks on Fauna whose writing and ideas I respect.)

I looked around the forum and could not find any central data center that would tell me why I had gathered points. Possibilities:

1) public approval of my posts?
2) perhaps we are all gifted with points to begin with?

If these are general starting points I hope to add to them; I do some professional writing now and I take time and effort to make my posts here on Fauna interesting, entertaining and informative.

If, however, any of my readers added points when they reviewed and approved my posts; thank you, I appreciate you.

I see where you can leave comments but....

Where do you look if you want to see a persons good/bad comments that people have left for them. I looked under view profile and saw nothing. I would think that this would work something like a "ebay" feedback rating where everyone could see other peoples comments about you and make a more informed decision on whether or not to purchase from certain people.its probably here but i havent figured it out yet.

I believe you begin with ten points, and to see the latest points you have received and any comment you might have received go to the "user cp" and at the bottom should be the "reputation" points.... this is where it is found over on cornsnakes.com

Thank you Sasheena; I think this system is identical to the one you described. I had lots of fun yesterday playing around with the system, and a few nice people sent some points my way. :D The new bells and whistles Webslave has here are very entertaining!

One of the options in the reputation system that I reserved for Contributors is the ability to see who is posting the reputation comments about them. Regular members can only see the comments, but not who posted them. At least it is supposed to be that way. I haven't tested it myself to see if it works as advertised.

I am thinking about changing the option that allows members to post negative reputation points to Contributors as all. Might help cut down the abuse that I have seen on the CornSnakes.com forums. But I'll have to think on that one.

It is not working that way, for me. I am a contributor and cannot see the identity of those who sent points. I would like to be able to see that.

Lucille, I changed a setting, so see if it works now. I believe it is a problem with a conflict between primary and additional usergroups. In this version of the software, each member is assigned a primary user group (which is usually the "registered members" group, and any additional options are provided by enrolling them into one of more additional usergroups. In this case, it is the "Contributors" usergroup. I believe the problem is that the regular members usergroup has the ability for members to view who posted the reputation comments disabled, whereas it is enabled in the Contributors group. So the problem arises in which group has priority over the other(s) if a conflict in settings arises.

Of course, this is going to be a big wrinkle in my plans if the priority of usergroups doesn't work as it should. There is NO such thing as "bugless" software......... :bandhead0

It did not work, but you are definitely worth some bugs. Eventually I am sure eveything will fall into place, don't worry about it.

BTW I tried to give you some more points but it wouldn't let me, said I had to 'spread some reputation around.'

LOL I thought, hanging out on the lh forum as I do, that I have spread around plenty of reputations :D

Hmm, well I'm still checking on it...

In the meantime, maybe this screen of admin options that I can set for the reputation system will explain things a little better.

My son (a teenager) has an expression he uses when he is impressed ....
"Wow,.....shiny"... :D

I can see how making this board run could get VERY complicated...
