Gastropholis prasina: burrowing?

Hi, I've had a couple of juvenile G. prasina since September of this year. Seller didn't know the exact age at the time of sale. Both have been doing fairly well lately and are currently housed in a 36x18x36" CCC tank.

My question is related to burrowing. Since moving into the new tank my pair have been doing this quite extensively and have completely eschewed the use of cork rounds. Is this typical for the species? Is it indicative of stress or unsuitable hide placement? If there's a way to gently encourage them to use the hides that would be ideal, as the burrows make it quite difficult to check on them.
