Candoia a Poppin'

Had a nice little surprise this morning. I went to load up animals for a program today and bwtween two cages, saw a little head poking out. CRAP!!!! The Soloman Island Ground Boa gave birth and there was a small hole in the back of the cage where the light comes in. An hour of hunting ever nook and cranny and we ended up with 31 babies and one slug. I am rushing to get off to the program, so here are a few quick shots until I get back later.

Congrats! Was this a WC female that dropped or did you specifically breed these guys? If so, can you share some of your techniques on breeding and gestation with us?

How much are you planning on selling these for? What colors were the parents?

BWSmith 12-06-2007 05:35 PM

I had not really thought about it yet. It depends on how they start feeding.

Here are the parents.

Nice. That male is awesome.

Found another baby crawling around the herp room last night. But on the upside, I got one feeding on f/t scented pinks. Just waiting for mice to drop to see what else I can get feeding.

Which type of candoia are these? Are they Paulsoni?

BWSmith 12-14-2007 02:13 PM

Yes, they are Candoia carinata paulsoni (if that is still correct nomenclature)
