Candida auris
Well, this doesn't sound good....
Mysterious Drug-Resistant Germ Deemed An "Urgent Threat" Is Quietly Sweeping The Globe |
I saw an article about Auris in the NYT this morning and it is a scary infection. What infuriates me is that apparently many hospitals are covering up if they have a problem with auris infections since it is so hard to get rid of, so someone could check in for minor elective surgery not knowing the risk to themselves.

CDC keeps info updated on outbreaks, cases, how to treat, etc. at https://www.cdc.gov/fungal/candida-auris/index.html
Makes you wonder if chytrid in amphibians, white-nose syndrome in bats, O.o in snakes, etc. are also related to various fungi adapting to the use of anti-fungal chemicals in agriculture, with some becoming more deadly as a result. |
Things could get quite ugly if a lot of the previously treatable ailments inflicted upon humanity become resistant to all currently avaiiable treatments. With all the hoops and hurdles facing the introduction of new drugs, things could get not only ugly, but VERY ugly.

Maybe it sounds like science fiction, but I think it is only a matter of time before governments sculpt their populations with infections where only the select receive treatment.
