SUBSTRATE QUESTION

they have pine bark mini nuggets a big bag for about $10.00, my question is why cant you use these if you heat them up before you use them. heat up like you do wood just put on cookie sheet in oven on 200 degrees for a few hrs, eliminates any bad stuff on them, any thoughts, poppabill..

Pine has harmful oils.
Also, you do not want your Bearded/s to accidentally ingest any substrate (whether just licking or if/when going after any live feed).
I simply use plain paper towels. Never have had a single problem.

Bearded dragons lick EVERYTHING and when they do, stuff goes in their mouth and they eat it. Large chunks of any kind of substrate will cause impaction, which can lead to death.

Pine has oils that are toxic to reptiles which will eventually cause respiratory distress and death.
