Best Place to find iguanas, various lizards in Florida
Hello, just asking since I know we have a large invasive population of some species under this forum. and Wanted to know where I could find them?
Thanks |
which species do you want? Green iguanas, iguana iguana, are all over miami. just go near any canal...

Iguanas are actually much less common here now. The big cold snap a few years back all but wiped them out. Now our new big invasive lizard is the Tegu. They are hardier and much more agressive as wild caught animals.

im from south florida as well, the iguana populations on my coast dropped with the snap in 2009/2010, but they are still there.
we have 2 species of ig, nile monitors, and more near me. hialeah is still packed full of iguanas off of the canals. 8th street's canals still have them too right on the edge of the glades. |
In addition to that, we also have a rising population of wild Tokays which are neat to see outside the captive environment. The best way to really find herps is honestly just to get outside and go for a hike. Just enjoy the nature that we have down here and you will stumble on some cool animals. Bring your camera too :)
