Rough green snake

These are about my favorite snake to find around here. They are bug eaters, real pretty little critters, and completely inoffensive. We've seen a few of them around this year, so hopefully we have a nice colony living around here. As you can imagine, they are pretty darn hard to see in most cases. Finding one is pretty much pure luck. This one just happened to be hanging on some dead branches on the side of a tree alongside our driveway. In grape vines, they are pretty much completely invisible.

Very cool. I've only been able to find a total of two smooth green snakes up here in Michigan; you're right, they're near impossible to spot when the foliage is still in color.
