Yeah, if a black hole were nearby, there would be absolutely nothing we could do about it. But I imagine the effects would be felt LONG before it got really close. So it's not like it could sneak up undetected.

The Earth will be swallowed by the sun in about 7.4 billion years so just put those black hole worries away ;)

I'm always astonished that scientists, who have been observing the universe for the tiniest most infinitesimal slice of time, can come up with such theories. But I guess their reputations would be little impacted if facts proved them wrong.

The whole space thing just boggles my mind. I've read all about black holes and I really don't comprehend it. Another one that blows my mind is how small our sun is compared to the largest star. Literally our sun looks like a grain of sand compared to IT Scuti
