Pacific Black Skink Enoia nigra

Just thought someone might be interested in this little guy. The Pacific Black Skink is usually seen in fast glimpses, as it jumps off basking rocks and runs away into the undergrowth, but this one seemed to be very complacent sitting on the concrete base of an open air building in a Fijian village. It was so relaxed it walked right up to Bavatu and sat with its toes right on his hand for quite a while.
This is about as big as I've seen them, but it's by far the biggest skink we have here. Anyway, this is the first chance I've had to get clear pics of one of these, so I thought I'd share. |
It's pretty neat seeing things I'll never see in the wild myself.

Emoia nigra! I'm used to seeing the green-backed tree skinks from Indonesia. CA Academy of Science has a monograph on the genus.
