Scolopendra Gigantea "BLACK MORPH" from Venezuela Hits Pet Trade
The Scolopendra gigantea has long been the "Holy Grail" of specimens for Invert hobbyists to aquire for their centipede collection. And out of the 2 available color morphs available in the pet trade ("White Legs" and "Orange") White Legs was more rare and thus more sought after. Recently, however, specimens of the Ultra Rare BLACK MORPH have been collected in the jungles of Trinidad and Venezuela and are hitting the pet trade - being sold on Facebook and Instagram - for about $1000+ each. If you decide to purchase one make sure you are getting a true S.gigantea Black Morph and not the more common Scolopendra galapagoensis. The notable difference is the solid black legs on the black morph whereas S.galapagoensis has somewhat of a stripe pattern on the legs. Here is a short video of the Black Morph in the Venezuelan jungle.

CORRECTION:
In my original post I wrote that they were being sold on Facebook and Instagram for $1000+. That is no longer accurate. If you type "Scolopendra gigantea black" into FB's search query, folks are talking about $2500 - $3000 each for an adult. :hair_on_fire: |
LMAO, yeah ... because Farcebook and Instagram are such trustworthy sites to buy rare species. Sheesh. :face_palm_02:
