So Nice !!!
One of my favorite snakes that we can't have in our state ! :(

gila7150 11-17-2014 10:08 PM

Great looking snake! Porphs are a real challenge to photograph. I usually put a bowl or a hide box over them and lift it off really quickly when I'm ready. They usually freeze and it takes them about 10 seconds to realize they can take off again.

Charis 11-17-2014 11:16 PM

Yeah, that often works for me too but not so far with this guy. Most of these pictures are from when he arrived and he is actually in shed in them, he attempted to shed while being shipped, I think, but got none of it off at all, which I didn't realize for a few days. Then I got to mess around for him for several days, trying to help him get it off. Finally we found the right combination of humidity and something he could use to rub against enough to get it started and shed in almost one piece. The last two pics are freshly shed.

I was just so happy that this guy arrived alive! The first one I was sent arrived DOA, the first time that's ever happened to me, was quite devastated. Was a heat pack fatality, I think. But the seller straight up replaced him, so I'm for the most part satisfied with how that turned out.

gila7150 11-18-2014 12:53 AM

That's too bad about the DOA. I've never had a problem with that seller. I'm glad he took care of you and sent a replacement.

Charis 03-24-2015 08:03 PM

He is so hard to get good pictures of! Realized only after I'd taken these that the other lens had been on the camera and the settings were still for that one, not the one I took them with. Oh, well, kind of shows how much he's changing, anyway. Taken 3/24/15 indoors with flash.

Beautiful! Those bands have definitely lightened.
Mine have been locking up like crazy and my female looks like she is definitely gravid. (She faked me out last year though). I cooled them this year and I'm hopeful that she'll give me something to incubate.

Charis 03-24-2015 09:08 PM

Fingers crossed! If she does give you some nice eggs, we'd definitely be interested in getting a female from you!

gila7150 03-24-2015 10:05 PM

I'll definitely let you know. I'm cautiously optimistic.

Beautiful!:)

I can feel four eggs in my pulcher. She wouldn't eat this week (which is very unlike her) so it shouldn't be long. I've read that Oreocryptophis don't always lay the typical 7-14 days after a shed. I've heard that they can lay the day after a shed, during or before a shed. What has been your experience with your coxi?

Charis 03-31-2015 09:23 PM

Awesome!!

Let's see, Serenity's first clutch, she shed 3/30/14 and laid 4/12/14. Second clutch she shed 6/27/14 and laid 7/5/14. Apparently I forgot to log in her pre-lay shed for this year's first clutch but I remember there was quite a bit of time between it and laying, probably somewhere between 11 and 15 days. They also don't go into shed as soon after laying as the corns do, it can be 2 to 3 weeks after laying for them to go opaque.
The corns tend to go blue within 5 days after laying.
But Serenity has always shed before laying.

Great...thanks for the info!

Charis 04-26-2015 08:19 PM

Did your female lay, Chris?

gila7150 04-26-2015 10:44 PM

Pre-lay shed was on 4/20. Should be any day. (fingers crossed)

Charis 04-26-2015 10:51 PM

Fingers crossed ...

It's going to be a long night :)
Of course she ignored the nesting box I put in there for her and decided to start laying under a terra cotta saucer she likes to hide under.
The first one out looks good.

Charis 04-29-2015 12:09 AM

Yay!!! Go little momma!

gila7150 04-29-2015 12:01 PM

I had to leave for work early this morning but she layed 4 good looking eggs and had one left to go. My wife is going to check on it when she gets home. I guess five is a pretty respectable clutch for Oreocryptophis....especially considering the size of the eggs.

Charis 04-29-2015 06:08 PM

Congrats on the eggs! Yeah, that's a very decent sized clutch.

Took some more pictures of Sokka today.

Taken 4/29/15 outdoors.

Very beautiful! Sokka seems more orange than mine. I wonder if that's a locality thing.

I ended up with 4 eggs that appear fertile and one probable slug. The slug was about 12 hours after the fertile ones so I'm just glad it came out on it's own.

Charis 07-21-2015 04:52 PM

Finally got some decent pictures!

Taken indoors with flash 7/21/15.
