My neck of the woods, more or less, and this is saddening. I do not get to see them very often, but this one allowed me to get very close to it (I could reach out and nearly touch it). When I went back to get my camera, it was wary of the camera and moved well out of reach (and focus). I had trouble getting a focused shot on the fly with all of the interference, so I apologize for that.
The ones on my property, like the opossums I am very happy to have here, have developed a positive association with my tortoise pens and the amenities within. "My" flying squirrels like soft fruit and become especially friendly when I provide papaya. They do not seem to screw around with my papayas or other fruits when they are still attached, but when I open some for feeding, they will visit at that time.
