Yep, I hate the getting off the roof part, too. That attachment looks useful.

Even if you don't adjust the leveling feet, they make the footprint of the ladder a little wider, and so quite a bit more stable.
Also, I use one of these when putting the ladder against the (slippery and a little springy) gutters:

It has grip tape stuff inside and outside, so the ladder doesn't want to slide over to the side so readily.
