S.373 is now called Lacey Act

Here is a response I got from a Senator. This Senator is more than happy to work with the voters. I will be adding his direct e-mail address.

Dear Mr. Skaggs:

Thank you for contacting me to share your concerns regarding S. 373, which adds a specific species of constrictor snake to the Lacey Act. I appreciate knowing of your thoughts on this issue.

This bill was introduced in the Senate on February 3, 2009. Senator Bill Nelson of Florida has expressed concerns about how constrictor snakes affect other wildlife in the Florida Everglades. The Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works reported S. 373 on December 10, 2009, and it now awaits further consideration by the full Senate.

I understand your concerns about the impact that this bill could have on reptile owners and elements of the pet industry. I look forward to carefully reviewing materials related to the ban, and the insights you shared will be helpful should this issue come before the full Senate for consideration.

I would like to have all the facts and information possible, epically employment, tax dollars, and what safety procurers can be put in place for environmental protection.

Again, thank you for contacting me.

Sincerely,

Richard G. Lugar
United States Senator
