I'm guessing because dengue is quite rare in Europe (did a quick search... Showed up in Portugal a few years back but that's about it). I seem to remember a couple years ago there was talk of releasing GM insects in Africa for malaria, can't find any info on it now. Would've thought that would be a better testing ground... Doubt anyone would complain about it. In any case, they clearly didn't learn from the Australian bunny fiasco.
