Don't think that just because a male stays smaller that it will necessarily be easier to deal with. My pure SD male can be a major jerk and even though he's only 8 feet, when he has ladies on the brain he will chase you around the snake room if you're not careful. My mainland males do all of the arching, rubbing, etc. when they are looking for girls but they don't get totally stupid about it.
