If you come to Eugene area make sure you check out Fern Ridge walking path, garter snakes are everywhere. . (But not in winter)
I've also seen alligator lizards, western fence lizards, gopher snakes, and blue tailed skinks in Oregon. Depending what part of the state you go to, there's a few places near Medford (Table rock and Roxy Ann hill are good hiking areas)) and Grants Pass (Cathedral Hills is where I saw a lot of the skinks) I have yet to check out Portland area.
