You're a new Fauna member, so apologies if you know this already, but native salamanders cannot legally be possessed in NY State -- there is no open season, and are listed as 'game' and so cannot be bought and sold. Both Spotted and Eastern Tigers (
Ambystoma tigrinum) are native to NYS.
