I have never been bit by a carpet beetle, as they tend to feed on dead flesh/carpet/furniture only. There could be a reaction to the hairs of the larvae, but ones to the beetle itself are unlikely.

I would be taking my child in had she had bites/reactions like that. But I guess that's just me...
