Congratulations on your new (not a dog, not a cat) pet! Reptiles are perfect pets for apartments, as long as landlords OK them, as they don't bark or disperse fleas, etc. Sorry I can't contribute any experience with axolotls to help, but I'm sure others here will chime in soon.
