Socratic Monologue
Amphibian conservation groups

I wanted to start a thread to discuss those amphibian conservation groups that are not at odds with the keeping, breeding and commercial trade of amphibians.

My intent with this thread is to point out that conservation organizations can be supportive of hobby keepers, and to collect information and thoughts about such organizations. I'd also like to dispel the unfounded associations between
what some people might consider -- without reason -- to be similar organizations. Here is an example of that sort of thought:

Even ignoring the fact that HSUS and PETA are not even pretending to be conservation organizations (they are so-called 'animal rights' organizations, which is a completely different beast that I hope doesn't play into any discussion here), not all wildlife conservation organizations use the same methods.

I am familiar with the following amphibian conservation organizations that promote captive keeping of wildlife:

http://www.understoryenterprises.com/ Without UE, the dart frog hobby would be a mere shadow of what it currently is.

Interestingly, all these organizations get much of their operating budgets from the sale of animals to hobby keepers.

A few more:

http://www.oocities.org/inibico/ I do not know what INIBICO's current role in amphibian conservation is. I do know that they have provided numerous lines of frogs to the hobby and used those funds for in situ conservation programs.

https://www.facebook.com/PDFTheDocumentary/ These filmmakers deliberately rejected funds from Save The Frogs because of STF's opposition to our hobby.

I invite discussion on these organizations and information on other organizations that promote conservation of wildlife and also support the herp keeping hobby.
