Improved Again! Now with all-natural antibiotic Oleuropein and Spirulina!

CricketFood.com's Salad Topper is formulated for omnivores and herbivores to provide a larger variety in the diet. This is especially helpful for those herps that are picky eaters. Premium Blend Salad Topper combines Wheat, Buckwheat, Wheat Middlings, Wheat Germ, Whey, Rice, Brewer’s Yeast, Oats, Barley, Soy, Almonds, Peanuts, Walnuts, Cashews, Pecans, Coconut, Red Milo Seeds, Sunflower Seeds, Safflower Seeds, Alfalfa, Dried Beets, Dried Sunflower Petals, Dried Safflower Petals, Dried Rose Petals, Dried Rose Hips, Dehydrated Pineapple, Dehydrated Papaya, Dehydrated Banana Chips, Dehydrated Apples, Dehydrated Dates, Dehydrated Apricots, Dehydrated Strawberries, Dehydrated Raspberries, Raisins, Pepitas, Bee Pollen, Acidophilus, Bacillus Subtilis, Lactobacillus Lactis, Beta Carotene, Spirulina, Oleuropein, Bioflavanoids (Quercetin and Rutin), Calcium Carbonate, and a Multi-Vitamin Supplement which provides probiotics, complex carbohydrates, protein, folic acid, antioxidants, calcium, and other beneficial nutrients. It is ground to a fine powder so it sticks to the herp salad, providing a much larger variety of food per bite. Just sprinkle a little on top and serve to reptiles. A little goes a long way.

A Veterinarian's Comment

As a hobbyist and Veterinarian there are many reptile species that, aside from being beautiful, are a challenge to establish in captivity. Many experts on those species develop a specific and unique way to work with those reptiles and get them to thrive and even breed in captivity but for the average hobbyist it is not as easy. One such species are the lizards in the Uromastyx genus. They are beautiful and unique yet most don't prove to be very hardy in captivity.

I fell prey to the beauty of these lizards and obtained a few WC specimens. They started eating and doing ok but not to the point where they would survive too long in captivity. Uromastyx are also very stubborn and will not open their mouths as readily as other species which makes it hard to dose them any medications or force feed them. Well, my answer to get my guys in the right track came in the way of a powder called Salad Topper from www.cricketfood.com. This product provided an unexpected response from my Uromastyx which eventually led to their full recovery and successful acclimation in captivity. As I sprinkled the powder on top of the Uromastyx salad mix, the lizards showed interest and immediately licked the powder to taste it. To my delight, they all continued licking the powder and had to start eating the salad in order to get more of it with every bite. As the days passed, the ritual continued and the bowl was completely empty by every day's end. All the Uromastyx gained a lot of weight and were very open at eating anything that came from my hand which facilitated all other procedures that needed to be done with them. To this day, they will wait by the bowl for me to add the salad mix and sprinkle the Salad Topper before diving in and devouring it all.

I owe my success with these guys to the Salad Topper mix. This product is very nutritious and balanced to meet the requirements of your herbivore and omnivore lizards. I can't say the results I observed will prove to be standard on every case but it is certainly worth trying as it could make a difference in your lizard's health.

FAQ

How much Salad Topper should I use?

The Salad Topper is a garnish and only used sparingly - about 1 teaspoon for adult iguanas or medium sized turtles, 1/2 teaspoon for lizards similar is size to adult bearded dragons or uromastyx, and 1/4 teaspoon for smaller lizards.

Is Salad Topper safe for iguanas, uromastyx and other herbavores?

Yes. Although some of the ingredients like pecans, sunflower seed, and safflower seed are high in fat, these ingredients make up a very small portion of the ingredients, which are not listed in any particular order by volume above. The base recipe of the Salad Topper (which equals 1/2 of the Salad Topper mix by weight) is our Premium Blend Cricket Food that contains these ingredients. The other ingredients that we add to the Salad Topper have little or no fat so the percentage of crude fat is actually less than the Cricket Food's 5.2%.

Since the Salad Topper has a multi-vitamin in it should we continue to use our multi-vitamin supplement?

The multi-vitamin we add to the salad topper is made for reptiles and is a low concentration intended for daily use. Using an additional multi-vitamin supplement is basically a judgment call on your behalf depending upon your husbandry and age/size of the animals. I'm pretty lax in using supplements except under certain conditions... gravid females, young hatchlings or juvies, winter months when I can't get my reptiles outside in natural sunlight etc, but I'm critical when it comes to my husbandry and I do have the benefit of FL sunshine and outdoor caging 10 months out of the year. If your reptile is still growing and under artificial lights I would probably continue to use the additional multi-vitamin supplement but I wouldn't get excited about missing a week or two of supplementing with it.

What is Oleuropein?

Tests show that Oleuropein eliminates harmful microorganisms which may support their use in almost any type of microbial invasion while not effecting any of the beneficial gut flora. This includes anti-viral, anti-parasitic, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties! Oleuropein also contains antioxidant components Quercetin and Rutin, which promotes a healthy circulatory system!

What is Spirulina?

Spirulina enhances color while providing the antioxidant beta carotene, iron, vitamin B-12, and the rare gamma-linolenic acid (GLA). Studies show Spirulina increases antibody production which is the first line of defense againt harmful microbial invasion.
