For historical purposes, I guess an explanation is in order.
With the For Sale and Wanteds ad sections on HerpWantAds, I was constantly having to delete messages that were for non-herp animals. This went on long enough and often enough that I figured maybe there was a need for a site more oriented towards a wider range of animal groups.
About the same time, I was approached by James Thornton to have him host my site on his server. We discussed this matter and felt it would be a reasonable idea at this time, since the look was going to completely change anyway of the site, to go ahead and widen the horizons a bit.
Now I thought over the new domain name quite a bit before deciding on 'FaunaClassifieds'. Many years ago, Bill Gillingham published a paper ad listing of mostly herp ads, with that name, and I decided to ask him if he still had any ties, claims, or just the desire to keep that name for his own use. He graciously declined any claim to it, and wished me well with this endeavor.
So FaunaClassifieds was chosen as the name for the new expanded site.
Honestly, though, I'm not sure it was all that great of an idea. The main focus here is still reptiles by a huge margin, and if I knew then what I know now about the overall usage, I would not have made the change over, and stuck with HerpWantAds.
So that's it in a nutshell.
