    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Leopard Gecko Eye Problem. Please Help!

I just rescued this girl today. She is EXTREMELY underweight (I can see her spine and shoulder bones). But she also has something wrong with her eye. I thought it was a shed gone bad, but I got a closer look at it and I'm not so sure that that is what caused the problem. What do you think? Any advice is welcome! Please help me, this is the first time I've dealt with eye problems with lizards.

If you haven't already, get this gecko to a reptile-certified vet ASAP. It could be a humidity issue; might be from high or low humidity. What are the current parameters of the tank (temp, humidity, etc.)? Tankmates? Substrate?
 
she's alone. She was on newspaper. and I don't have the specifics of humidity and temp that she was at. Currently she's in a temporary holding bin until I can get her to the tank she's destined to. Not back at my personal facility yet.
 
I've rescued leopard geckos with eye infections like that. Chances are sand got into her eye and she was never able to remove the debris. Rinse the eye out daily with sterile saline solution and keep her on paper towels. Also, soak her in luke warm water for a half hour or so a day. That will help with the dehydration and the stuck shed on her toes. Only let the water go barely past her belly if she's laying down, leopard geckos freak out if they think the water is too deep.

If she had trouble eating, feed her Repashy's crested gecko diet on a spoon. Leopard geckos hate having their faces dirty, and if you smear the diet along her lips she'll clean it off and ingest the food. You should notice significant improvements in a couple of weeks.
 
What do you think about the white on the head? It does not appear to be dried skin from a bad shed. I soaked her today and used a cotton facial pad to dab at it with warm water and it did not react like stuck shed does.
 
Yeah, it could be a fungal infection. Athlete's foot cream may help, just DON'T get it into the eyes. A fungal infection is definitely worth a vet visit though as they are notoriously difficult to treat.
 
That's what I was thinking too. I noticed that it wrapped from the head to the eyelid. I just hope it doesn't spread to the other eye. Do you think she can see out of the infected one?
 
I don't know, maybe you could put food on the side of the infected eye. If she reacts to the food when it is only on that side, then she can probably see.
 
Definately worth a vet visit...

I would actually consider wearing latex gloves before handling that particular gecko.
