In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Please Help stop rattlesnake roundups!

I find it funny how people come on here and talk crap about rattlesnakes because they kill people each year. Yeah... they kill about 2 or 3 people a year and the person is always to blame. If you try to pick up a rattler, you will get bit. If you try to kill it with a stick, you might get bit. Cars kill more people each year. Horses kill more people each year. Dogs kill more people each year. If people respected the animal at hand then there would be no bites and no deaths.

Also, for those that have hots and they free handle them, it is just a matter of time before they get bit. How can someone be a part of a reptile website but then not care about them? It really doesn't make sense, but I guess people will do things for attention, no matter the cost.

Well, you gotta look at some of the other gems he's posted and you'd likely come to the conclusion that he's just a clueless troll.

Even if I didn't happen to love hots, I'd still agree that the rattler round-ups serve no purpose and need to be stopped. It's hard for me not to empathize with needless death, even if it's not something that's cute and cuddly. It seemingly amounts to wholesale slaughter for nothing more than entertainment's sake.

There are positive changes happening. This year in Georgia, the Claxton Rattlesnake Festival was changed to the Claxton Rattlesnake and Wildlife Festival, and did not purchase or sell any wild caught rattlesnakes.

Most rattler round ups have always sickened me. I could never wrap my head around how their treatment of animals doesn't get them shut down. It seems like there's a lot of undue cruelty and stress kept in just for the sake of some crowd's entertainment. It doesn't matter what kind of animal it is, I don't see how unnecessary torture could ever be sanctioned.

It's a start and I'm glad, I really hope other festivals follow suit. I think we can all help promote such changes by making our protests heard and by clearing up a lot of the misinformation surrounding these animals~ :yesnod:

Nobody is mad, you just seem to be a sad, clueless individual. I understand that your life is probably lame and you will do anything for attention and that is fine. I guess that is fine and that is your sad life. I however, didn't join a reptile website to make fun of reptiles. I actually enjoy them and they are my passion in life, just like the rest of the people on the website. Anyways, back to the important issue at hand.

I am glad that postive changes are happing. Rattlesnakes have been killed for no reason for long enough. They are a such a intergral part of ecosystems around the U.S. and people are only slaughtering them out of fear and ignorance, but clearly you don't have to look to far to find ignorant people. I hope postive changes continue to happen so we can have all the species of rattlers for a long time to come.

Just to let you guys know, there's an article in a REPTILES magazine about round ups. They even state that some round ups down even kill the snakes, they just capture them and release them when they are done showing the public. However, it is senseless killing, especially considering other death stats, such as more people die from cows, cocunuts, bees, dogs, horses, ants, and geese than they do from rattlesnake bites annually. Also, of the people that get bit, less than half of the "victims" die. Many round ups are under the guise of being educational. Since when was eating, sewing up rattlers' mouths, sewing dead rattlers to turtle bodies, and decapitating innocent creatures for ENTERTAINMENT educational?
Thank you, I have now had my soapbox moment of the day.

my first point is this, for every person killed by a rattlesnake I think its like 5 people are saved from its venom. the other thing is if we were having a cat round up or a dog round up people would go nuts. I don't like the round ups and they are not good for the enviroment, we all know what they eat and rodents have killed more people then most wars. In PA we have the timber and its a very rare site to see one unless your really looking for them.

Yeah if you're passionate about the preservation of rattlesnakes in the wild then you should also consider calling up animal planet and protest against the the show rattlesnake republic, as it to shows a negative approach towards the respect and dignity these animals deserve. IN FACT pretty much everything shown on animal planet these days is geared towards inspiring fear and hate towards animals that the public does not understand. Fear = HIGH Ratings.

As of right now, I'm not so happy with Anima Planet. Just a few years ago, they used to show all kinds of animals. But as of late, they've turned towards dog and cat only shows while attcaking reptiles and the herping industry.

I also read the article in REPTILES magazine and that was the first time I'd ever heard of them; it was really shocking. Anyone interested can read it here:

http://www.reptilechannel.com/snakes/venomous-snakes/rattlesnake-roundups.aspx

Although I was pleased, after reading the gory details, to read this paragraph:

"Rattlesnakes the right way
Some rattlesnake roundups in Florida and Pennsylvania are now known as “festivals.” They feature true educational displays and are more ecologically sound because they don’t rely on over-the-top hunting methods to supply large numbers of snakes that are killed during the event.
Bill Rulon-Miller, a fellow rattlesnake sympathizer, attended the Noxen, Pa., roundup earlier in the year and reported that no snakes were killed, and that hunters pit-tagged and released the snakes back into the areas where they were captured. Bill also noted that, unlike roundups in Oklahoma, the snakes that were on display were provided with adequate water and shelter.
Replacing the revenue generated at more traditional roundups may not be easy, but alternative events such as these certainly warrant further consideration."

I appreciate all creatures but those considered to be "more dangerous" deserve more respect IMO.
Fun fact: more people are killed by coconuts each year than sharks.
