Brumation question

Does it matter what age a beardie is when it goes into brumation or does it just depend on the weather. I was just wondering because i have never heard much about that. thanks

I'm not an expert but from what I have read and researched they do not suggest to send a baby or juvi into brumation as they need all the food and heat to grow. Typically you should not start brumation until they are a year old. Which is ok because it is not healthy to mate them before a year of age. Hope this helps.

Left to themselves, most dragons over 2 years will brumate to some degree. Rare is the dragon under 1 year that will brumate, althought I have seen some slow down.

Sandfire ranch states all their dragons do, even the babies as she said they were housed outside.

We have noticed the larger 1 years will brumate also, but if they have not filled out yet, they do not seem to and stay up active.

We have one girl, CC, that is just a year old, but close to 600 grams and she went down about 3 weeks ago and is still soundly asleep... even when I tried to offer her water last weekend, she did drink, but never opened her eyes. So I figure she is going to be another hard sleeper like LuLu who is also close to 600 grams and sleeps from September to Feb. She wakes ups and starts laying eggs like crazy.... we have never breed her, but probably will this year as she is so determined.
