In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

A couple of questions about Wattages and Hibernation?

Ok, first about the wattages. Is a 75 watt infared light ok for a ten gallon? For a Leo obviously. I just bought Gex one and we'll see...I'm going to put a Thermometer in his tank for a few days to see what the temps stabilize at. I just got a whole bunch and this one doesn't have any wires because I tried one with a probe before and he tried attacking the wire. Hes queer.

Gex was without heat for two days before I could get a ride to the Pet Store in the next town and it made me think of some interesting questions. Hes in my bedroom which never drops below 70 and fluxes from 70 to 78 degrees throughout the day. My Fiancee blew my worries off and said he'd be fine. I FINALLY after a day of thinking came back with if their temps are to low for to long they will go into hibernation. Same with the Rescues I have.

So if the Rescues were kept with no heat they must have been in hibernation right? At what temps do they start to hibernate and for how long do these temps have to be at whatever temp they start to hibernate? Can you feed them in hibernation and how much? I mean if temps are important for digestion then I suppose you wouldn't feed them. My last hibernation question is when you take them out of hibernation how do you do that? I mean like a slow rise in temperatures? An if you don't do it slowly are there any repercussions? Gexies situation just got me thinking. Thanks again guys! :)

75 seems kinda high for a 10. It's been a while since I've used that set up, but I would think something in the 40 range would be good for winter and maybe a 25 watter for the summer. The most important thing is to check the temps and adjust accordingly.

You boyfriend is right, they will be fine. It is best to have an extra bulb around so that they don't need to go without heat, but they will be fine.

Leos don't really hibernate or brumate like a North American colubrid would. They are active and feeding year round. It is best to give them a heat source year round so that they can properly thermoregulate and carry out bodily functions like digestion. If they were kept cool the best thing to do is to just set them up properly with the correct temps. There is no real reason to warm them up slowly.

Why do they need to be warm to digest? Also I thought Leos were hibernated sometime for Breeding season? Maybe I was reading about Corn Snakes that day?

I agree, 75 watts seems pretty warm for a Leo. I'd keep a very close eye on it.

Gexies temps have been stable for the past two hours at 87 degrees on the hot side.

You've talked about bulbs for the leos, but are you using an Under Tank Heater too? They require belly heat to digest their food, which you will not get from a bulb. If you don't have a UTH, I'd suggest you get one that covers 20-30% of the tanks bottom. Then you want to use a thermostat to keep the hot side at about 90.

Yeah, the Thermometer is on the ground. The heat stopped at 89 degrees and I moved his tank about 5 inches away from the light. I think he gets heat to the ground because the light comes in at his tank from the side. Its a clamp lamp. I know about the UTH's but Gexies actually Jeff's and he tells me hes fine, hes fine! I donno?

He eats perfect and sheds perfect. I don't really get the difference with all this NO..... uth not light. In nature they get it from the sun above which warms the rocks below? Can somebody please tell me why exactly in a very educated manner why the uth matters so much over the light? It'd help with my argument against Jeff.

By the way Gex is the only one with a light. Squee and the Rescues have underground heat. Jeffs a guy if you get good results then what the hecks wrong and why would I switch. Ya know?
