    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Sooner or later?

I've been wondering when to get a thermostat and mealworms. Is it okay to get both when I get my gecko at the next expo or do I need them ahead of time?

I'm pretty sure getting mealies the same day won't be a big deal since I've read that geckos don't usually eat for a period of time due to acclimating. I don't know if getting the thermostat after the tank's setup will affect the temps.

i would get the thermostat and set the tank up before you bring your gecko home. This way, you can make sure that temps are stable and the home will be as comfortable as possible for when he had to adjust to his new home.
You could probably get the mealies with the gecko that day, and give him a day or two to settle in before feeding, but that way. at least you have them.

Alicia is right on! It sometimes takes some "tinkering" to get your temps right where you want them, so it's best to get that set up ahead of time. The mealies can be purchased the same day, they will last longer that way. Each gecko is different though, some won't eat for a couple of days, some are natural-born piglets who will eat anytime, anyplace. ;)

For the record I've had 11 different Leopard Geckos at my house at one point or another and they all ate the very first night home. I guess I ran into a bunch of Piglets! :)

Erg. Classic case of fingers not going as fast as the brain. I meant to say that I read some geckos don't eat the first day.

I'm going to get some mealies and have them all ready to eat...just in case the bugger's hungry. I'm still going to buy some at the expo, since it's probably a good idea. Who knows, I might not be that lucky when it comes to breeding them.

I'm also going to call around to see who has the thermostat I want (zoomed 500r) and who has the best price.
