In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

dirtystinkystuff ???????? anyone bought from them or had good or bad dealings

Yeah, I have to agree!

Just based on the name, I would not open an ad, and obviously would not buy from a business with that name.

I am just waiting for someone to name their business International Balls (or Boas) Direct...and shorten it to IBD.

First impressions mean a great deal to some people, like me. We have all seen the people that come on here and write like a 4 year old, using "an" for and, their for there, "sell" for sale, etc. Even though we are not all Fortune 500 companies, a little professionalism goes a long way!

Dave ~
Did you notice grammatical errors or short hand in my post similar to those you are speaking of?
If our name was T & D reptiles/herps/geckos, or something equally uncreative, would it have struck you as more professional?

Has anything that you read about us, seen us post [content-wise], or any interactions you may have had with me or my partner, lead you to believe that we operate in a less-then-respectable or professional manner?

I am aware, that some individuals take things for face value on a daily basis. Thats how it is. All I hope is that some individuals a. have a sense of humor, and b. can form opinions for themselves, c. see the amount of work and effort we put in to coming across as "professional"

The second type of individual, is the individual that we want to do business with.

Our ads have been mentioned, and I'd like to use that as an example. How many people have as many pictures of an individual animal, or take the time to provide sexing pictures, along with pictures of clutch mates, parents [when available], and current feeding & weight information?

Our ads, our site, our invoices, all the way down to our business cards, we have poured time and energy into, doing from SCRATCH, so that we can stand out.

And I am sorry if we don't live up to your "standards" but this is, after all, just a hobby. We have day jobs, and a life, and we don't delude ourselves into thinking that this is about $. If you are in this business for money, then you are in the WRONG business.

However, I would like to point out, the title of this thread is NOT "Dirtystinkystuff, opinions on their business name?"

If you haven't had any sort of contact with us, and you don't have anything to add, other then "I think their name sucks, its childish, unprofessional, & lame" Please dont add anything at all.

This is a case of "don't judge a book by its cover". Let their abilities speak for them, not the name of their business.

Tamara and David know what they are doing as far as the animals go. *bounces around the room waiting for the day Tamara can ship us the Leachie she produced!*

What you say if all fine and dandy.

You have your opinions about what is professional, I have mine. A somewhat professional name is usually the first thing people see regarding your business, and I just do not see how having a name that conjures up a business that sells dirty socks is a great idea. Again, just my opinion, and I do have a great sense of humor, I just do not see any humor in your business name.

I sell Ball Pythons as a side gig, and do quite well. I also have a day job, for which I am very well paid. My wife is also gainfully employed, and does quite well too. So if you are implying that I am some deadbeat that brokers WC crap, and has no life outside of reptiles, you are way off base.

As for your ads, never seen them! So, I really cannot comment on how well or poorly they look. If I am not mistaken, you sell Geckos or Chams or something, not really what I buy. ALTHOUGH, I did hatch 4 Lineatus eggs, man are those some COOL little neon orange babies.

Dave

I am not implying anything about you personally. I was responding to the assumptions you made about me and my business. I was also responding to what other people said about us. I am glad that you are gainfully employed, wish I could say the same.

In geckos, after you buy the adults, feed, house, heat and breed them, that morph has already devalued so that by the time you incubate the eggs, hatch the babies out, heat, feed, house, photograph, clean, and post those, the amount of of $ you make off those sales is no where near the amount that you put into keeping, feeding, and breeding them, you better enjoy it for what it is, because it is a big never ending money pit :)

Well, there you go assuming...

that the gecko breeding I was talking about, the one you say is such a money pit, was done this year. In fact, it was done in about 1999 or so. I have Ball Python Morphs and a couple of Albino Boas, no Geckos now. But, the little Lineatus were very cool, think I sold the 4 unsexed babies for $200.
Where are you in CA? Was it 94 there too? It was very hot today here.

Dave

"you" was a universal term, and we, were talking about ourselves :) I have no place to assume what your situation is, 4 lineatus does not require a 200/mo cricket/mealworm order :p

No Offence to anyone, But I dont think I would even attempt to buy from someone named(dirtystinkystuff) Is that there business name?

I guess I did offend some people here? Sorry that was not my intention.. I look at the Boi all of the time and like some have stated the name Jumped out at me. I in no way ment to put down this company as I have never done Buisness with them, But after seeing all of the good posts about them and the way Tamara handled this thread. I may just go have a peek at there available page!

I have had the pleasure of ordering geckos from dirtystinkystuff and was totally satisfied AND they went above and beyond to ensure the animals were delivered safely and they were readily available for the MANY questions I had about fruits and such after I had gotten the animals. My geckos were supremely packaged and looked great when they arrived. They shipped on schedule and arrived on time. They even called to make sure I was happy and that they had arrived safely.
I will not order geckos from anyone else because my experience was excellent and the animals are superb!I contacted them with questions and they always responded promptly and were GLAD to help and walked me through complete care because I wanted to make sure I was doing everything right and they patiently answered all my questions and were VERY professional and kind throughout it ALL!
dirtystinkystuff is a great name :) and they are incredible people and I have sent several people to the website and will continue to do so because I believe they are one of the BEST out there!

Couldn't agree more with Angel.
I bought 1.1 crested, my first cresteds so I had a ton of questions that were answered with no problems, again everything was exellent and Tamara asked me to call when they arrived and I would have anyway, she cares about her animals, it is very obvious.

Tamara, I had PM'ed you on the Geckos forums I was going to give you a good guy on here, guess I should have said where here was, lol, sorry about that.

There ya go, a smart marketing idea working to draw potential customers into the store! The name of the business has just jumped out and attracted someone to look. and some are saying what a bad name it is, some would also not recognize a good idea if it smacked them in the face.

I guess everyone has their own ways of picking where to purchase their reptiles from. To me.. the name doesn't matter (even though dirty stinky stuff will not be easy to forget or overlook on a list). It boils down to quality of the animals, customer service and a bit of the personalities involved.

I have never bought personally from Tamara, but have interacted alot on several different forums with her for a fair amount of time.

I can say without a doubt though, I would not hesitate to buy from her.. whatever name she uses for her company.

If anyone reading this is on the edge, wondering if they should buy from Dirty Stinky Stuff based on the name alone.. do yourself a favor and email Tamara, you won't regret it.

Honestly! After wading through everyone's verbose opinions about "what's in a name", the bottom line is that so far this thread is a Dirty Stinky Stuff Good-Guy report.

I love the name, I thought it was quirky, humorous, unusual, and I remembered it.
Besides, I never buy from someone JUST because of their name, I try to go by their quality, expertise, and reputation.

As far as this becoming nothing more than a "good guy" thread, wasn't that the original poster's intentions? To find out if they were "good guys" or "Bad guys"?
I guess I missed the point when it became a smear campaign against their business name.

Regarding the original inquiry about dirtystinkystuff, they are GREAT business proprietors.

Tamara & David have advised me on many different animals based on their knowledge and experience LONG before I ever intended on purchasing anything from them.
When I did acquire a Crestie from them, the communication, experience, after sale advice, courtesy, professionalism, and overall condition of animal was above and beyond what I expected..

I would 100% recommend them to anyone interested in dealing with them.

Just because Tamara and David call their business Dirty Stinky Stuff, doesn't mean they're any less professional.. The name of a business can be deceiving if one doesn't take the time to actually investigate as to why it is so.

I'm sure Dave's (reid) not the only one to think that Tamara's business name sounded a little "unprofessional" but with any business or person, a little insight wouldnt do any harm. Think before you speak or act. You may find that the people behind the odd and unusual business are quite professional.. Perhaps more professional than you think.

Tamara is a very nice and professional person (I should mention she's smokin' hawt too and Dave's one lucky son of a pup. lol)

I saw their name a few months ago. My first reaction was "What...the hell?" but then it intrigued me, so I investigated further. THAT is good marketing IMO. By the way, after reading how good they were, I have always remembered the name and I have referenced certain people to the website (among others, of course). If I were to need something they have, dirtystinkystuff would be near the top of the list. Don't get me wrong, it isn't because of the name, it's because of their stellar feedback. But the NAME is what made me look further. I would be much more interested in "Dirtystinkystuff" than one of the "Exotic herps". That's just the way it is for me, personally.

Again, I know some people won't think it is very "professional" but maybe that is just a personal difference that varies as much as every personality everyone has. But, I also think it isn't good to take things at face value like that. Perhaps I wouldn't be as interested, or people wouldn't be so dismayed/intrigued if every buisness was named Dirtystinkystuff, but so be it

when i commented on your post, i knew what you meant by no offense, and i personally did not take any. but i knew right off that the reaction of others, would be the same as yours.( not a bad thing, its just how some people in this hobby are :p )

So i hope you didnt think it was me, who might be offended. cause i knew what you meant, and where you were coming from, but i also wanted to have my say, and since it was related, i just quoted you. ^_^; Pardon? :D

To be honest - I have seen the ads and even saw some things that I wouldn't have minded buying - but the name was enough to dissuade me - it just did not illicit a sense of security in me.

I now understand that the name was created in humor - but it seems that to the average person it comes across as perhaps something less than professional - I honestly thought it was just some kid with a bad sense of fart humor, not a real business to be taken seriously. First impressions being what they are I'm not sure the name makes a good one - the humor doesn't carry over very well.

Now seeing that they are a good legit business - I would be inclined to buy - I hope that this thread will shed some light to others like myself that would have otherwise just skip doing business based on their impressions of the name.

Good luck - perhaps we shall do business one day!

Wow, like I said the name caught me off guard but not so much that I didn't check out their site and talk to Tamara and I am glad I did.
The name is something I am likely to remember and I know that name everytime I change cages lol. But a name with initials or something I am forever forgetting or getting mixed up.

So they have a name I remember, great animals and customer service and now getting that name out there in a good way. They have people that have taken a chance dispite the name so now have happy customers that will come back and will talk good about them so the few that would not buy on just the name is missing out and the company is continuing to grow. Sounds good to me.

regardless of name she can at least form complete sentences wich is alot more than most.

that and she gives free expert advice on the forums she visits
