In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

:( So I stop in my local pet shop to pick up a large mouse(corn snake) and a small rat(king snake),,but instead the girl says buy one get one free on the asf rats. What the hech,,they are about the size of a large mouse.
Corn does'nt come out of his hide,,I check on him,hes VERY blue,so off to the kings tank.I'm thinking, well I let her have both. She eats f/k or stunded I should say.She checked that thing out for 10 min.,,but would'nt eat it
I brought the other one back to the shop,,live and learn

I have a few colonies of ASF's, as well as several colonies of mice and rats. Also a couple of gerbil colonies. Well, I got more than that, but I am not going to get into it.

What I am getting at is that I always switch up the food for my snakes. One feeding they may get mice, the next may be a baby rat or ASF and I haven't had any problems feeding them and switching it up. I can't imagine that they would smell all that different, but then again, I don't process smells the same way snakes do.

Who knows why the snake refused. ASF's are just as good as mice or rats, they produce faster and they have larger litters. I wouldn't go and give up on them just yet. Maybe Mr. Snakey, just wasn't that hungry?

Is there any nutritional value over mice ?,their frame and bone size look the same as a mouse,,not like a young rat, where you can see in the legs alone, that bones are bigger(more calcium):yesnod:

I've always just thought it was because wild rats will kill & eat baby snakes so maybe they're programmed to avoid them :shrug01: That's how I got started with feeding gerbils. I've never tried ASFs on anything, I'm going to check them out.

One time I tossed a couple of rat pups in a bag of mice to scent them and instead wound up with a bag of mice nobody small enough would eat. I had to give them to my brother who's BP eats anything.

Rodent Pro has a Nutritional Guide. It's a pain to compare things w/o printing it out though.

<~still procrastinating about restarting a colony

I've noticed similar responses with a few of my snakes (mainly colubrids) to ASFs. Heck, even a few of my BPs won't touch them.
(Thankfully, I only have a few colubrids that aren't bulls...and they usually don't care what I give them, especially after they hit 6 months old)

My big king eats small rats,,and on a few occasions I have had an extra mouse(corn would'nt take 2)and gave her that as well. She sucked them down too.
Not sure how my corn would react to a ASF.I think if he was very hungry, it would be a done deal :yesnod:
Twisted paths,,gerbils ? you must breed your own,or your shelling out a lot of coin every week

Maybe if you cook the bacon a little extra crispy and cut the crust off of the bread. Are you using mayonaise or that damn miracle whip stuff?
I do all of that except Jon Stewart has got me using Baconaise bacon flavored mayo, you can actually feel it slowly clogging most major blood vessels while you eat it!
