In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

everyones opinion Please!!!!

Drove 3 1/2 hours to this kids house (16 years old or so) traded 2 adult female ball pythons for his burm. Now this burm had 35 eggs last year he said. soon as i seen it i told him thats a Male. No i swear its a female. now i took pics of the spurs to show everyone..

this is from his burm... now mine:angry:

If this is a 'deal gone wrong' thread it belongs on the BOI. What opinions are you seeking? You apparently were dealing with a minor. You drove out with your trades to get the snake and apparently you knew the moment you saw it that it was missexed (by a minor). Yet knowing this you went through with the deal anyway when you could have taken your trades and gone home and found a better deal elsewhere.. So what's your beef?

Lucille's right (as usual); I'd never do business with a minor that young unless they proved to me they knew what they were talking about. And especially when you disputed the sex of the snake, why on earth would you go through with the deal?
Also, I thought that sexing by spur size was not a reliable way of sexing a snake?
I have a feeling you may regret the title to your thread...

spur size and tail lengths (from the cloaca) can be indicators of sex of a python. i have a over 12 foot male retic that has absolutely zero spurs shown. i have seen many males with tiny or even no spurs seen, and on the other side i have females with good size spurs. whenever i buy or trade for a female snake, i always ask for pictures of the female either laying the eggs or at least coiled around them, before they get removed and put in the incubator. maybe i am just a little naive that way, but everybody (that i know of, including myself) takes pictures of the courting, laying and some of the hatchlings busting the egg

Not everybody takes those pictures...at least not after a few years, or for every pairing. That said, using spur development/presence for gender identification can be deceiving, depending on a few variables...but, a casual look would consider that a male burm. Why waste time asking for opinions, though? Just probe it and find out.

I have no beef at all. i felt bad for the snake so i did the trade anyways. i just wanted everyone opinion on it being a male or female. i been dealing with burms for a long time and never seen a female with big spurs like that. always small and hiding like my females. now i posted pics of my male and female just so everyone can see. the kid called me wanting me to drive back and he would give back my snakes but i said it was cool and he can just payme for my gas and thats it. im getting it probed tomorrow to make sure. if its a female then great but i never seen a female with big spurs like that and i have alot of burms.

Hmm, I'm interested in hearing who the kid is given your location and the amount of time you drove. Have you checked to see if this person has any BOI threads about them?

You felt bad for the snake, so you gave him some snakes that were in your care.

The kid says he'll give you back your snakes and take back the burm.

I have no opinion on external signs of gender. Probing/popping is the only real way. You could get it DNA sexed, but that's wasteful.

Were there any pics of the 35 egg clutch? His ad states that it did not have any clutch last year.

I think there were two people here that could have done things better.

GL with it. Maybe it's a girl and this whole thread is moot.

females spurs start off smaller but with age they get larger it is not un common to find and older female with large spurs if you know the age of the snake that can help with the decision of sex also the wigth of the spurs can tell you and also look at the base of the tail if its a male you will see a slight bulge, how large is the burm probing is the best way but my guess thats looks like a 8 to 9ft snake just looking at the pics and my guess its a female also some ale virgin snakes have inverted spurs and dont usually come out untill they are sexually active thats why probes were used because spur size was not always 100% guarenteed to tell sex because of that ,but i still say its a female put it with a snake you know is guarenteed male and if her tail goes up then she is female good luck with finding out

Probing is more reliable, if done by someone with experience, but Burnese at that length & suspected age should be easy to tell from spur size & tail taper. However, at 14ft & 145lbs it's tail taper could easily look like a female.

If you don't get it probed soon, post a photo of the last several feet of it's tail from a distance. That albino in the other two photos is definitely female based on spurs & tail taper. That albino Burm should be the only guide you need when they're placed side-by-side.

Later!

Just got back from my local breeders (Brad Mcarthy) well known guy here in pittsburgh. he did the full exame on it and its a MALE 43lb 12ft 4 inches. told him the whole story and said i was dumb for kicking up my balls (he seen them) oh well i made a big mistake and learned a lesson on this. Dont Trust Kids!!!! spend a few $$$ and get some probes

Thank you everyone that replied. Mods you can deleate this tread if you want.

well it was cage cleaning time yesterday and i noticed this burm is breathing bubbles. when to take him out of the cage and all you hear is gurgeling sound!!! so now i have a sick wrong sexed burm. GRRRRR I will be watching for this kid on the fourms.

Wouldnt someone be able to tell the difference between 43lbs, and 143? oi.

Looks like you were in too much of a rush to actually even consider all the red flags, let alone to look elsewhere instead of dealing with a kid..... This ones all on you.

You saw the snake, suspected it was male, knew it was 1/4th the size of the stated ad, knew you were dealing with a minor, yet you traded YOUR snakes for this snake?

I'm very sorry to hear it's sick. I'm confused why you would put two of your snakes into his care if you "felt sorry" for the burm? I'm further confused why you would go through with a trade when the snake you saw was obviously not what you agreed to trade for?
