In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Would you still buy from someone if they had a BAD GUY post in the BOI?

How many BAD GUY posts would you consider before you passed on that person or busines

  • 1 Bad Guy post and I look else where!

    Votes: 19 18.3%
  • There are problem customers I may give them 1 or 2 BAD GUY posts

    Votes: 77 74.0%
  • 3 or 4 but I'd would use CAUTION

    Votes: 7 6.7%
  • 5 + and I still would us them!

    Votes: 1 1.0%

  • Total voters

That really depends on the specific situation and how the person in question handled the matter.

I cannot choose one of those.. Because having a bad guy thread alone, does not mean they are a bad guy.

I would have to read those threads.. Because often, it is a simple misunderstanding, or just a jerk with a chip on his shoulder.

There are many though, that I would NEVER ever purchase from.

Heck, there are some people with GOOD guy threads I would never deal with, based on their ethics and personalities, or even the quality of what they sell.

Good guy/Bad guy.. everyone needs to be looked at individually before I would consider purchasing from them.

Yeah, good points and I knew it would be a hard question to answer in some ways. Just trying to get a feel but you both are right.

One has to look who wrote the bad guy post- it might be a bad buyer or seller, or a payback, or just a jerk. Look at the bad guy content, it might be an easy fix and perhaps the OP did not even notify the party prior to the post.
However, a huge bad guy post count over a number of years warrants investigation before a transaction.

Of course, the way things appear, this poll will be moot shortly.

I think I would see how the person responded to their bad guy thread. If they handled things in a professional manner with a resolution. I might give them a chance. Just another thought with so many good quality breeders out their why would someone want to take a chance with a potential problem.

Of course, the way things appear, this poll will be moot shortly.
I suspect that will have some major effects on the way many of us do business. I know I will go back to purchasing only from a select few sources (or face to face transactions).

Ditto on all above responses. Just having a bad guy thread means nothing. I would have to read it...and also take into account any good guy threads they have as well.

I voted the second option.

I look at both Bad and Good Guy threads before deciding. As many have mentioned, sometimes there are bad buyers. I also like to see how the person conducts himself both during a problem transaction and on a message board. Like Brandi mentioned, there are several "Good Guy"s here I would never purchase from because of their attitudes. I look at the Good Guy threads also to see what people are saying. Some Good Guy threads don't give much information, are the "friend of a friend of a friend" kind, or something else that doesn't necessarily make them a Good Guy in my book.

What everyone else said--the contents of the 'bad guy' thread mean a lot more than the fact that it simply exists. How it's dealt with, how big of a problem it is, the documentation provided, etc. It all matters. I chose option number two due to all of those things--just having a bad guy post doesn't necessarily make someone a bad guy. You have to look at it carefully.

I definitely do check when I go to buy from someone, and I read whatever I find on them thoroughly.

I didn't vote, but only because there's too much gray matter in the question.
As others have said, it would depend on circumstance. Some people can't be made happy no matter what you do.
Some people don't communicate well, whether it be the buyer or the seller. Personally, I'm BIG on communication when it comes to purchasing, either face-to-face or via internet. If I don't get decent communication (and I don't necessarily mean 'immediate'), I go elsewhere. If I don't feel my questions are being answered adequately or the seller tries to tell me what they think I want to hear, I'm outta there. I do tend to throw in a newbie question or 2 just to see what the seller says or how accommodating they are.
As for some well-known names with numerous/consistent bad guy posts...nah, they aren't getting my money. There are too many good guys (and gals!) out there.
Now, doesn't this thread make you want to contribute to the BOI just to make sure it stays around?! I'm just sayin'...

I'm sorry, I am new and don't want to sound stupid. Is the BOI our Trader Rating or our Reputation, or something different?

From what you all are saying, if someone has a Bad Boy post anywhere, I would see what for and if the person giving it to them sounded like a hot-headed idiot or some other kind of person that likes to cause problems. If they have a legitimate complaint and the person with the Bad Boy post took care of it in a professional and timely manner, I would not hold it against them at all. It would actually be a plus then in my opinion.

I don't know if that helped or was pertinent, not really knowing what the BOI is. Maybe someone can message me about it?:D

BOI, rep/karma & Bad/Good Guy posts are three different things.

Here's the BOI link, get your comfy chair, a big glass of your beverage of choice and enjoy CLICK ME

It's past my bedtime so hopefully someone else will answer the rest.

I recentlty puchased a animal from somebody that has gotten some flack on the BOI (Bad guy) but there were alot of respnonses defending this person as well. I made payment 10 days ago and am being patient with the seller shipping due to winter conditions. I did notice yesterday the seller had other animals he was willing to ship immediately upon reciept of payment! This is a bit frustating and I dont know how to approach it.:shrug01:

Well let me see I dont think I would buy from any one other than someone with a good past and a Better future in breeding! I am a Hobbiest though so thats how I look at My Dollar!
The truth is people with a past is like a two sided coin,7 out of ten people represent heads with good fellowship and true interest in a Healthy experience for you and tails represents 3 out of 10 who made a bad bad call in choosing a Quality animal from someone with less than Qaulity Ethics.

It depends entirely on the circumstances, so I really can't vote. I have bought from a person who did have one (legitimate) bad guy thread--from like 2003, years ago, and who had learned from his mistakes. He'd shipped improperly, years ago, learned from it and moved on. And then there's the people who have a bad guy thread where you can tell it's really the customer. But then there's some where you'd have to be crazy to buy from 'em.

Anything involving a blatant rip off is sort of like that to me; if you didn't send them what they paid for, and didn't make it right BEFORE they had to kick up a fuss, I'm not buying from you. Period. Blatantly misrepresented animals are another; if you sent a guy what you claimed was a nice, representive photo (or a photo of the actual animal) but the two are nothing alike...nope. Probably not dealing with ya. Ever.
