In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Paypal (not as secure as everyone might think)

The reason I had problems with paypal is that I sent money from my bank account through paypal for 3 sulcattas for 300.00 After getting the money the turtles never came. I jumped through the hoops for paypal who finally said that once the person got the money they emptied the paypal account or receiveing bank account and there was no recourse for paypal to retreive my money. THats where I have the problem. To me it seems paypal has some obligation to hold that money for a time to insure that the item is received before releasing the money to the receiver because that sounds like a great scam using the help of paypal. Money never returned and sulcattas never received all through the assurance that paypal is the secure way. To me it just says, Lets open a paypal account and a bogus bank account scam all we can into it takeing the money as fast as it hits the account then be gone. I am not sure how much it takes to get a real reaction. My sheriffs dept surely isnt going to AK from GA to get them over it and their depts up there wont do anything because I am down here. Just a really bad taste for me with paypal.

In case You cant tell, I am still ticked. Its not just the money that makes me so mad with the scammers, its that heart sinking feeling to wait for 3 sulcattas that never arrived day in and day out looking and wondering where and why and then finally having the reality sink in that you have been scammed and no babies are coming and the money is gone so You cant get anymore. THATS what hurts but of course paypal doesnt care.

I'd recommend, when purchasing via PayPal, only using a credit card. If something happens and PayPal doesn't help you out in a scamming situation, you can take it up with your credit card company. Usually, they'll get it worked out.

Kathy, did you talk to your bank about this? They might be able to help....

Yep, bank couldnt help at all because they paid paypal, same as a check coming through but what was bad is that I waited for the time period that paypal said for dispute ( ya know make the claim give them time to answer junk) which was time enough for them to get the money take it from their account and be gone. Yep, I would agree credit card is only true way to pay with paypal.

Paypal

Thanks for all the feedback, well the potential sale I had for $3,000 never worked out as I declined to take Paypal, I opted for US Postal Money Orders but the buyer did not feel safe and secure about sending Money Orders. At the end of the day I rather miss a sale, than lose the Snakes (Angloan Pythons) + the money by risking Paypal.
I'm surprised there are alot of breeders that do take Paypal..must be something i'm missing.

I'm sorry Bill but truthfully YOU may have been ok to accept the pay from paypal because the money would get to you or you wouldnt ship. It s the receiveing end that I feel takes the hit because once the money is there they can take it out and be gone and the critter never shows. There is always that chance of reversal but if you take the money out of the paypal account as soon as You get it then they cant just take it back unless You are one of the good guys that gets hit because you still have a bank account they can go after tied to the pay pal account. Hope that makes sense to you.

Paypal

Hi Kathy,

I did think of that, but I've read a few places where if the buyer claims that it is not what he/she ordered, etc, etc, etc.. Even though you get the funds out Paypal still sends them the money and than has their collection agency constantly harrass you with calls for the amount. Not sure this is true, but just what I've read.

Bill

Is having your credit/debit card linked to PayPal a good way to do it then? (You know the debit card with the Visa/Master Card symbol on it.)

How is ANY transaction that is not face-to-face truly in cash safe anyway?:shrug01:

If I pay in money order, how can I be sure the receiving end even has the animals or merchandise they are advertising? If I send the money order out and don't get what I order, I am up a creek with no paddle.:yesnod:

Paying any other way is the same thing pretty much if someone really wants to take advantage of someone else, am I right?

It all comes down to knowing (as well as you can) who you are dealing with then, right?

I think it pays to get to know people on here first and to pay attention to their trader ratings, although the ones like myself who haven't done it on here yet could be a wild card I suppose.

Paypal

Your right there really is no safe way besides face to face. At the end of the day , if your serious about making a purchase it should be with a well respected Breeder. My issue was with receiving a Paypal Payment from someone wanting to buy snakes, who would only do Paypal. I was not comfortable accepting a large amount of $ through Paypal so I never did the deal.. The only safe way I figured I wanted to get paid was through a Postal Money Order because you can confirm they are real at their site.

I change my passwords every so often but not used paypal in a while.I may creata second account and only keep 30 cents or so in it until I actually need to use it to pay for somethign from now on. I don't have a true credit card only my debit card. I don't want ( can't afford ) more bills at this time. I only been burnt 1 and that was with ebay.

as forselling/trading snakes online I wait till I am at a reptile show and go that route for now. then it cash so Idon't buy something and screw with my bill money at all.

Very smart posts and a lot to consider. Unfortunately in this world, there will always be something that is a great idea at the time until someone greedy comes along and takes advantage and proves it is not fail-safe.

If my animals start breeding, I think I may be forced to take the offspring to the reptile show if the local pet store aren't able to take them off my hands. I know the owners really well of the pet store and I know they will treat them well and find great homes for them. http://www.extremepetz.com They are friends with the people who run the Kalamazoo Reptile and Exotic Animal Show. http://www.kalamazooreptileshow.com Still, if I can have a trusting relationship with people on here or on http://www.caudata.org that would be another avenue that would be a possibility that may open up. I would have to be online more than I am now though.:yesnod:

Thats really the name of the game there Kelly. Know who you are dealing with and use the BOI on this site. It will help save you alot of grief along the way. This site is really good in finding out things. Like You said, there are crooks out there that spoil alot for everyone else. Good luck with your breeding and most of all, Enjoy your pets. Thats truly what it should all be about.
