    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Ha gotcha have you ever walked to the rat room on a sat morning and just went OMG is this really worth it,I went down to clean cages today and was just like man does somebody really need this many darn rats.I sometimes feel more like a rat hobbiest than a dang snake breeder.I think my rats eat as good as some people or better,whats worse is I have half my snakes Gravid with little appatite so I have really had extra as of late.I have tried to pass them on to people at good discounts so that helps,and dont get me started on eggs waiting to hatch or drop oh boy..............

Maybe you need to find a much cheaper material source. Like for feed and bedding?
You can always cull and have some extra pinkies for sale.

I find a good deal for customers, especially repeat customers is to thrown in $5-6 worth of free rats when they spend maybe $20 or so. If you have as many rats as you say who cares right?

How many racks do you have and how many per?
Are you selling enough to keep up or just barely?

How much are you spending on what supplies?
Maybe Fauna member can help you find some cheaper supplies.

Try networking as much as you can and I suggest, if you really are spending even close to that, lower your stock.

Maybe you can sell to local pet shops? You can always breed the 'cute' colored rats to try to pull in a new crowd. Be sure though that if your going to sell pet rats that they really are genetically and have at least a half way decent type. While im sure some people will disagree, a pet is different than a feeder and it should not have bred in faults like small nasal passageways. Think about like a herp, only a bad breeder would breed a line if the parents died of liver failure or had detrimental faults like weak bones and prone to URIs.

You aren't alone in that. I think everyone who breeds their own feeders feels that way. I did it for a year, and recently was up to a couple hundred rats. Then something inside just snapped and I decided no more. I was spending several hours a day tending to rats, and you never quite get rid of the smell totally no matter how much you clean. I just put the last of them in the freezer today, it's just not worth the time sink for me anymore.
 
Id have to agree, after a while you hit too high of a number just go on a huge sale.
Cuz its way too much work and if your spending that much money you could just buy your feeders and be done with it.
 
Im sorry I must clarify when I was buying rats sometimes I could catch a wholesaler and buy 30 smalls for my snakes and my son in laws snakes because we rotated buying everyother week.Well when I could not I would go to the cheapest petstore (Aqualand) and pay 30.00 for rats and such.I must say I have breed rats for 2 years with ups and downs until now when all of a sudden I have hit a good stride with females not eating as much during breeding and being Gravid.Im selling them cheap around here I can get a 1.25 a piece for the small ones off Craigs list,I was just being LAZY>>>>>>>>>>>>>
